Meet the six members of the CommunityWest Board.
Linda Crumlin | Chair
Linda was appointed a Board Member in 2009 and is currently the Chairperson. Originally from Scotland, Linda Crumlin moved to Perth in 2006 to take up her current position as Senior Manager Community Services WA for Australian Red Cross. Her background was initially in nursing and midwifery but she later moved into medical sales, sales management and marketing management. After completing an MBA in 1996, Linda co-owned her own business and marketing consultancy for five years before moving to Australia.
She is passionate about people and social justice issues and believes that the community sector is a vibrant and successful market and is stronger when people work together in partnership. She sees CommunityWest as a key player in the future growth and recognition within the sector.
Linda hopes to support CommunityWest by contributing her knowledge of the sector’s services, the marketplace and business expertise to add value to both the Board and the organisation.
Deborah Costello | Deputy Chair
Deborah joined the Board in November 2002 and has taken on both the roles of Vice Chairperson and Chairperson (2009-2010). She is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Injury Control Council of Western Australia Inc (ICCWA) where she has held several roles over a total of six years. Deborah’s commitment to the community and health sectors is supported by her work carried out across a number of other community-focussed organisations. These have included: Office of Road Safety, Osbourne Division of GPS, General Practice Divisions of Western Australia, and the Department of Health, including a number of years’ experience as a HACC Program Officer.
Deborah has a strong background in research and policy development; and is committed to making a positive and significant contribution to the health, community care and injury prevention sectors at a local, state and national level.
Julie Sultmann | Treasurer
Julie Sultmann was appointed to the Board in 2008 and was subsequently appointed to the position of Treasurer in September 2009, a role she still retains. She has a considerable background working in finance-based roles within business, aged care, and the not for profit sector at various times and is also a Certified Practising Accountant.
Her motivation for joining the CommunityWest Board was to continue to contribute to the aged care sector by bringing a set of financial skills to the Board, as well as a business focus to the ongoing governance of the organisation.
In terms of the future, Julie would like to see CommunityWest continue to be a well-run organisation that contributes effectively to the sector by challenging itself and adapting a focus as the environment demands.
Hilary Gill
Hilary joined the Board in 2008 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge across a number of areas including project management, workplace training, business management and development, and teaching.
She is currently self-employed, concentrating much of her effort in the corporate training sector as a training consultant specialising in fields such as organisational culture.
Hilary’s passion is cricket, her 14 grandchildren, maintaining a sense of humour and living the philosophy of life-long learning. She is currently the Chair of the Trinity College Seniors Advisory Group.
She believes that her range of skills stands to contribute a great deal towards guiding and assisting CommunityWest in making informed business and operational decisions to enhance the organisation’s future development.
Nicola Hartnell
Nicola Hartnell is the longest serving Board Member. Commencing as an inaugural member in 1996, over 16 years she has contributed in both roles as a general member and as Chairperson (1996 - 2009).
CommunityWest has benefitted greatly from the diverse range and broad base of skills that Nicola has been able to offer. Her professional qualifications include: Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech and Hearing), Diploma of Health Care Management, Graduate Certificate in Project Management, and she is a Member of the Australian Institute of Management. During her career she has managed acute care, rehabilitation, community based services and consumer-based advocacy organisations.
Nicola’s passion has always been, and continues to be, the development of the sector and ensuring that its staff have access to the specific education and learning they need to provide the best possible care to the frail aged, persons with a disability and their carers.
Astrid Timmers
Astrid Timmers joined the Board as a Member in April 2005. She is currently the Director of AT&A Pty Ltd which operates; ATA management consulting, HomeCare Options - a community service provider and ATA Training, an RTO operating within the health, community and disability arenas.
With a tertiary qualifications and experience in nursing and management, she has worked extensively in strategic and operational management of aged, community care and related organisations. More specifically, Astrid has been an Aged Care Accreditation Auditor, Nurse Advisory and Administration Advisor for the Department of Health and Ageing (2001-2010).
Her special areas of service management relate to service access for marginalised members of the community or special needs groups.
