WA Assessment Framework Policy Statements
The WA Assessment Framework (WAAF) Policy Statements have been developed to assist Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres, Regional Assessment Services, HACC service providers and other stakeholders to understand the requirements of the WA HACC Program and their respective roles and responsibilities within the WAAF.
The WAAF Policy Statements replace the original WA Assessment Framework Metropolitan Referral Protocol and supplement the WAAF Metropolitan Client Pathways March 2012. The development of the WAAF Policy Statements addresses a number of recommendations from the independent evaluation of the WAAF and additional policy statements will be developed and circulated in the coming months to provide further clarification for stakeholders.
The succinct nature of the WAAF Policy Statements highlights the core principles and policies that should be followed by stakeholders without prescribing every step in the assessment or referral process and should be read in conjunction with the WA HACC Program Service Provision Guidelines.
The WA HACC Program is committed to Continuous Improvement and will ensure organisations in receipt of WA HACC Program funding are monitored for compliance with the WAAF Policy Statements as part of their Community Care Common Standards verification visits.
These policies will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they meet the needs of stakeholders and contribute to entry, assessment and service provision that has the client at the centre.

Expansion of the WA Assessment Framework into Kimberley region of WA
The WA Department of Health circulated a Bulletin to all Kimberley HACC service providers on 12 June 2012. The purpose of the Bulletin was to provide an update on the expansion of the WA Assessment Framework into the Kimberley region.
The implementation of the WA Assessment Framework in the Kimberley from 2 July 2012, is a significant undertaking and will require the good will and hard work of all HACC service providers, the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre, Regional Assessment Service, Aged Care Assessment Team and other key stakeholders. A commitment from all stakeholders to work collaboratively in the interests of the clients and carers will be critical to successful implementation.
The Kimberley Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre (CRCC), managed by Kimberley Aged and Community Services (KACS), will be the entry point for new enquiries and will provide information, commence eligibility screening and referral to appropriate assessment.
The Kimberley Regional Assessment Service (RAS) will be managed by Access Care Network Australia (ACNA), a business unit of Silver Chain, in collaboration with the KACS team.
