The OECD recently released its report on 'Better Life Index' . This report looked at measures of well-being for 34 countries to provide a snapshot for their citizens.
The OECD argues there is more to life than the cold numbers of GDP and economic statistics. This Index allows communities to compare well-being across countries, based on 11 topics the OECD has identified as essential, in the areas of material living conditions and quality of life.
Australia fares "exceptionally well in measures of well-being, as shown by the fact that it ranks among the top countries in a large number of topics in the Better Life Index. . . In terms of health, life expectancy at birth in Australia is 81.5 years, more than two years above the OECD average. . . . When asked, 75% of people in Australia said they were satisfied with their life, much higher than the OECD average of 59%.
The report provides a nice graphical interpretation of the measures for each country. The Australian summary is well worth a visit.
The site also lets users rate the importance of the 11 topics/measures to their own circumstances and then reorders the ranking of countries to see how each country rates on the key issues for you.
