Is there now someone in your organisation that knows the 'Spark of Life' Secret? On Wednesday 27 June a large group of staff from the aged care and community care sectors attended the 'Share the Spark of Life Secret' workshop at Technology Park Function Centre in Bentley. So, what is this secret to working with people with dementia...
Over eighty people attended this first special event workshop this week. Guests had the chance to hear international speaker Jane Verity, along with Hilary Lee, discussing their approach to dementia care. The group gained some practical experience with AusLan (Australian Sign Language), learnt about the importance of your intent when working with people with dementia, and discovered a tip about the benefits of wearing bright colours - to name but a few of the skills learnt on the day.The group were guided through the key to the 'Spark of Life,' which gave participants a practical model for remembering how to engage successfully with someone with dementia.
One participant’s feedback demonstrated the far-reaching benefits of the 'Spark of Life' session:
“Best workshop I’ve been to. Extremely useful and interesting. Not only is this something useful for work but I can see it will be useful for home” (Perth Home Care guest).
