Bladder and Bowel Health Education

Session overview
This course examines the prevalence of incontinence, who it affects, the causes and triggers. It also looks at the assessment and management strategies a client may use

Continence Subsidies and Eligibility

Session overview
This session will enable participants to understand continence subsidies for their clients with continence issues. Participants will also gain a better understanding of products that clients may use to enhance their quality of life.

Prevention and management of UTIs

Session overview
This education session will allow participants to gain a better understanding of urinary tract infections (UTI's) and enable them to support HACC clients to manage and prevent further infections.

Water and Wellbeing

Session overview
This session addresses water (hydration) and wellbeing, the risks associated with not drinking sufficient fluid and how to assist clients to prevent problems associated with poor fluid intake. Participants will receive a Water and Wellbeing kit for use with their clients.

Dementia

Assistive Technology in Dementia Care

Session overview
Assistive technology and equipment for daily living are playing an increasingly important role in allowing people with dementia to maximise their independence and minimise the care they require.This workshop looks at available equipment and technologies and explores their uses in dementia care environments.

Experiencing Dementia Simulation (One Day)

Session overview
'Walk a day in the shoes of a person with dementia'. This experiential workshop provides participants with the opportunity to get a sense of what life might be like for a person with dementia. Participants will go away from the day questioning their own perceptions of dementia and prepared to influence the perceptions of others.

Reminiscence and Life Stories

Session overview
Reminiscence and life stories support the sharing of wisdom, the leaving of a legacy and the seeking of peace – all tasks of 'elderhood'. Reminiscing helps us make connections with a person – their past, present and future – and life stories can help unlock the 'voice' of a person with dementia. 

Younger Onset Dementia

Session overview
This presentation covers the particular needs and concerns when a younger person is diagnosed with dementia. Although dementia is challenging at any age, if you are a younger person the experience can be quite different from that of an older person, with completely different situations needing to be addressed.

Direct Client Support

Basic Foot and Nail Care

Session overview
This course gives support workers the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver basic foot and nail care to low risk HACC clients as part of an assessed need in personal care. It is available as an 'on-site' request only and interested organisations are encouraged to contact CommunityWest to discuss the training in the first instance.

Effective Progress Notes and Report Writing

Session overview
This course provides participants with the skills to improve their client progress notes as well as other documentation. The course is based around workplace scenarios.

This workshop will provide support workers and coordinators with a framework within which to work in relation to their personal and professional boundaries when supporting clients.

Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse

Session overview
Support workers may find themselves working closely with clients who are at risk of, or already experiencing, abuse. This half day workshop aims to empower HACC support workers or volunteers with the knowledge and understanding required to effectively recognise and respond to incidents of abuse. Assisting clients to make a complaint and the role of Advocare is also discussed.

First Aid

Basic Workplace First Aid

Session overview
The Basic First Aid course offers quality First Aid training that will enable the participant to perform resuscitation and assist in minor first aid situations. The delivery of this training will be tailored to suit the learning styles of the participants.

Senior First Aid

Session overview
This senior first aid training aims to develop the knowledge and skills for a person to manage emergency first aid situations and deliver competent emergency care until the arrival of professional medical support. On successful completion of the course participants are issued with a competency certificate valid for 3 years.

Assessment Framework Information Session

Session overview
This session is an opportunity for participants to increase their awareness and understanding of the WA Assessment Framework and the key findings to date. Participants will also have an opportunity to see a demonstration of the WA Assessment Framework Interface (WAAFI) electronic e-referrals.

Being a HACC Support Worker

Session overview
This workshop aims to equip support workers with the skills and knowledge to work within a Wellness approach and meet the requirements of the WA Assessment Framework in relation to their role. It builds on the knowledge and skills covered in HACC Foundations Revised.

Community Care Common Standards Information Session

Session overview
This information session will provide service providers and agency staff with information about the Community Care Common Standards and the quality review process. Participants will have the opportunity to complete an exercise using the improvement log process.

HACC Foundations (Revised)

Session overview
This course provides HACC support workers with a basic knowledge of the HACC Program and an understanding of their role as a support worker. This course would be completed at commencement of employment and before the course Being a HACC Support Worker.

HACC Program Orientation for New Coordinators

Session overview 
To provide new coordinators and managers with a structured orientation to the HACC Program, including the contractual obligations and responsibilities of being a HACC service provider.

MDS v2

Session overview
This workshop session is based on the WA HACC MDS user guide. It involves group discussion about recording service delivery and what information will and will not be recorded. The workshop also addresses the requirements for the reporting for carers, the reporting process and managing data accuracy and risk. The most common errors and how to correct them is also covered.

Preparing for Screening and Assessment (Country Regions Only)

Session Overview 
This workshop focuses on the basic communication skills needed by HACC staff in country regional areas to screen for eligibility and to prepare for a face to face assessment.
This training incorporates use of the HACC Needs Identification (HNI) screening tool. Participants need to have a prior understanding of the HACC Program.
While embracing the principles of the Wellness Approach, this workshop includes conducting a 'Wellness Assessment', setting goals and developing support plans
Working with the client to set goals and to develop a support plan is covered by a resource available on the CommunityWest website.

Steps to Success - Service Coordination within the WA Assessment Framework

Session Overview
This workshop is the amalgamation of 'Being a HACC Coordinator and the WAAF' and 'Implementing Client Goals and Support Plans' workshops. This course is for WA HACC coordinators working in WAAF regions only. 

'Steps to Success - Service Coordination within the WA Assessment Framework' will provide professional  development opportunities for Coordinators, Managers and staff of service providers working within the WA Assessment Framework supporting HACC eligible clients.

Opportunities to expand theoretical knowledge and practical skills in communication, negotiation and change will be explored in addition to identifying continuous improvement opportunities.

 
Target Audience
This workshop is for WA HACC coordinators, managers and persons in other pivotal roles pertinent to working within the WA Assessment Framework.

This workshop will provide an understanding of Unit Costs, how Unit Costs are developed, and identifies the information service providers need to easily calculate their Unit Costs..  It also looks at factors that impact on Unit Costs within HACC services, and introduces, as an alternative to the RSMBC spreadsheet,  a revised Unit Costs Spreadsheet that simplifies the calculation of Unit Costs for each service type delivered.

WA HACC Assessment Training (WAAF Regions only)

Session Overview:

This two day workshop has been developed to support the implementation of the WA Assessment Framework and the establishment of the Metropolitan Regional Assessment Service's (RAS).   It is only available for HACC assessors employed by a RAS.

The course has been designed to assist participants to further develop their skills as an assessor, to be able to conduct face to face assessments based on a Wellness philosophy and to understand their role as a HACC assessor within the WA Assessment Framework.

Target Audience:

Currently available to those working within a Metropolitan Regional Assessment Service as a HACC assessor.

To perform the role of an assessor with a Regional Assessment Service it is a mandatory requirement to attend this two day workshop.

WA HACC Assessors Refresher Workshop (WAAF Regions only)

Session Overview
The Refresher Workshop Sessions are provided to assessors as a professional development opportunity to assessors aimed at building on practical understanding and development of skills relevant to their assessment role.

The workshops are offered on a quarterly basis and will vary in topics and presentations  The workshops will also provide assessors with updated information on the WA Assessment Framework.

Wellness in Action in Centre Based Day Care for Managers and Coordinators

Session Overview
The Wellness in Action in Centre Based Day Care Workshop will provide professional development opportunities for Managers and Coordinators of CBDCs supporting HACC eligible clients. The workshop will focus on the provision of innovative support delivered within a wellness framework and targeting individual client's needs and goals. The workshop will assist CBDC Managers and Coordinators to support staff and volunteers to build client capacity, maintain and enhance their current skills and develop new and transferrable skills.

Opportunities will be explored regarding how to assist the CBDC to implement individually focused care and support for clients including those with higher level needs. In addition the workshop will examine how to provide this assistance within a flexible and innovative environment which upholds the individual's choice and their right to make decisions on their own behalf.

Service providers will be invited to present or provide examples of the challenges, opportunities and results in implementing innovative service models in CBDC.

Communication Skills for Managers

Session Overview
This workshop is designed to give Managers and Coordinators of HACC funded agencies some practical tools to improve communication in the workplace. The course will assist Managers to communicate effectively with all staff and clients within the community care environment.

Continuous Improvement: An Introduction

Session Overview
This course will introduce the key concepts and processes of continuous improvement in a community care context. The course will focus on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to implement systems and processes in their organisation that meet the requirements of the Community Care Common Standards - Standard One (1.5 Continuous Improvement).

As a follow up to this course participants can attend Risk Management:
An Introduction. Time will be set aside at the start of the risk management course to discuss issues service providers may have in the implementation of continuous improvement processes.

Managing Performance

Session Overview: 
This workshop is a full day program that aims to enable managers and supervisors to gain a stronger understanding of the purpose and elements of performance management by equipping participants with a number of skills and tools through a range of practical exercises.

Managing Performance - e-Learning

Session overview
Time poor but still keen to up skill yourself in possibly the most vital leadership skill, managing performance? This series of three short online modules summarise the key aspects of CommunityWest's popular one day workshop, aiming to give managers and supervisors a stronger understanding of the purpose and elements of performance management, by equipping participants with a number of skills and tools through a range of practical exercises.

Session Overview

Risk Management: An Introduction

Session Overview
This course will introduce the key concepts and processes of risk management in a community care context. The course will focus on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to implement systems and processes in their organisation that meet the requirements of the Community Care Common Standards - Standard One (1.6 Risk Management).

Staff Recruitment and Selection

Session Overview
This session is for HACC managers and coordinators who have had limited experience with recruiting staff and little or no formal training. It will help you to plan your recruitment strategies based on the needs of the organisation, think outside the square when advertising for new staff and introduce you to best practice interviewing and selection techniques.

Mental Health First Aid Introduction (One Day)

Session Overview
This workshop will explore what mental illness is and how to recognise and help someone feeling depressed, suicidal, developing an anxiety disorder or psychotic illness. This one day course utilises the award winning mental health first aid guidelines for common mental health disorders and relevant crisis situations.

Mental Health First Aid Training (Two Day)

Session Overview
One in five Australian adults will experience a mental health disorder every year. Mental Health First Aid is a two day course developed at The Centre for Mental Health Research at ANU. This interactive course will equip you with the skills and resources to be able to recognise and respond to someone with an existing or developing mental health disorder.

Carers Recognition Act 2004

Session Overview
All organisations and programmes funded by the Department of Health WA and the Disabilities Services Commission are required to comply with the Carers Recognition Act.  This session will enable participants to understand how to apply the requirements of the Act.

Medication Support & Administration for HACC Staff

Session Overview
All HACC coordinators and support workers are encouraged to attend this full day, competency based training in medication support and administration. The course was developed specifically to support the HACC Medication Policy requirements for HACC service providers. Coordinators and support staff also need to maintain their skills and competence through regular refresher training.
